IAG Cargo has launched freighter flights between Madrid and Basel using a Cygnus Air Boeing 757-200 Freighter, to meet the demands of Switzerland’s pharmaceutical sector.

The service has been on trial since January and IAG Cargo says it has proved popular offering access to its Latin American network.

The flights support Switzerland’s pharmaceutical sector, which makes up more than a third of the country’s export volumes, and 74 per cent of goods shipped by IAG Cargo were carried on its Constant Climate product, specifically designed for temperature-sensitive drugs.

IAG Cargo commercial director, David Shepherd says: “IAG Cargo has a flexible network investment strategy where we respond as quickly as possible to customer demand. Our latest freighter service underlines our commitment to giving our customers the capacity and routes they need, and further highlights the strength of our industry-leading pharmaceuticals proposition.”

Customers have access to over 29 tonnes of lift per flight, expanding IAG Cargo’s short-haul freighter network by six per cent.

The flights provide access to 32 Latin American destinations and scheduled services will operate on Sundays with a return flight on the same day.
