Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has become the first major air cargo company to start swapping plastic products to sustainable alternatives made by M&G Packaging.

The BioNatur Plastic manufactured M&G Packaging is a growing line of biodegradable plastic products made with proprietary formulations to make them sustainable.

The plastic is made from a blend of resins including LDPE and a plant-based biopolymer, which is biodegradable in a landfill, reducing fossil fuel-based plastic and greenhouse gas.

It is stronger and more puncture resistant than polyethylene plastic and uses significantly less oil-based resin than other plastic products.

Mike Simpson, executive vice president for the Americas at WFS says: “WFS uses the equivalent of more than 27 million plastic water bottles a year in protective plastic sheeting and wrap so with this commitment we can make a significant contribution to the environment. We are thrilled to finally have a product that ensures this plastic will not languish in a landfill for decades.”

Charles Rick, president of M&G says: “We’re proud to be the supplier chosen by WFS to help further its sustainability programme. It is taking the lead on this initiative to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste.”
