World Air Cargo Awards endorse excellence

Excitable winners, punching the air with their glass trophies brought to a successful end the Air Cargo Week World Air Cargo Awards, which was only to be followed by the Gala Dinner desserts.

The resplendent ballroom at the Kerry Hotel heard nine rounds of cheers and applauses for the nine awards presented by the corporate sponsors. In a room of about 300 industry professionals, Chinese state television channel CCTV presenter Steven Weathers, guided the evening and awards ceremony. The first award was airfreight forwarder of the year. Sponsored by Swissport, the finalists were DHL Global Forwarding, Geodis Wilson, Kuehne + Nagel and Panalpina. The winner was Geodis. Before the first award there had been the first two performances with sword dancers and a all-female dance troupe. The next two awards were air cargo handling agent of the year and air cargo charter broker of the year. They were sponsored by Etihad Cargo and Saudi Airlines Cargo, respectively. The handling agent finalists were Asia Airfreight Terminal, Dnata, Swissport and WFS. The winner was Swissport. The finalists for the air cargo charter broker were Air Charter Service, Chapman Freeborn, Chartersphere, and Swiftport. The winner was Air Charter Service. After a Chinese banquet the award ceremony was well on its way, towards the concluding award of cargo airline of the year. Its finalists were Emirates SkyCargo, Etihad Cargo, Qatar Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways. The winner was Emirates SkyCargo. Earlier in the evening, airport of the year was awarded. Brussels airport won, against the competition of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Seoul Incheon. The other awards and winners are, general sales agent of the year, ECS Group; air cargo industry customer care award, Etihad; air cargo industry achievement award, Saudi Airlines Cargo; and information technology for the air cargo industry award, Accelya Solutions. While the winners gallop away with their awards to celebrate, this year of the horse will come to pass soon enough, and the Air Cargo Week World Air Cargo Awards 2015 will arrive soon enough.
