Lufthansa has managed to avert a second strike by the airline’s pilots after an agreement was reached over their future pay.

The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union had announced on Monday that passenger pilots would begin a 24 hour strike and cargo pilots would start a 48 hour strike from today. However, an agreement was reached yesterday afternoon, halting the planned action.

“Fortunately, the cockpit association and Lufthansa agreed on a partial solution this Tuesday,” VC said in a statement, adding that “a comprehensive package of monetary and structural issues was essentially agreed and is awaiting elaboration in the coming days.”

“The previous demand for automated inflation compensation has been replaced by a demand for an annual pay increase of 8.2% starting in 2023 – in addition to a 5.5% increase this year,” Lufthansa stated.
